“Les Femmes du Monde will celebrate the 31st Woman of the Year Award black-tie dinner on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at the Dallas Country Club. President Alyce Heinrich and I announced Virginia Cook as the 2015 distinguished woman at the beautiful Beverly Drive home of Gina and Scott Ginsberg in March.

“Virginia is thrilled to be this year’s Woman of the Year recipient, and is someone who has helped make this organization and many nonprofits successful, embracing education for members and youth, while at the same time, helping others in our community. Virginia Cook is CEO of Virginia Cook Realtors, served as the first woman president of the MetroTex Association of Realtors and the Texas Association of Realtors, both of which named her Realtor of the Year. Prior to founding Virginia Cook Realtors, she worked closely with Henry Miller and Vance Miller, and sold her first company to them while she was still in her 20s. She had built her firm to 13 agents, which started the residential branch of Henry S. Miller Real Estate Brokerage. She served as the president of that company for 28 years. Throughout her career, Virginia has consistently supported a broad range of organizations and charities with her time, energy and resources.

“Virginia is honored to be included with some of the past Woman of the Year recipients as Juanita Miller, Margaret McDermott, Pat Smith, former First Lady Laura Bush, Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler, Gloria Campos, Lynn McBee and others.

“Les Femmes du Monde began in 1961 at the encouragement of Gen. Robert J. Smith, Chairman of the Board of the Dallas Council on World Affairs, who hosted a luncheon at the City Club for 20 prominent young women. He proposed that they form a special fund-raising committee to be called Les Femmes du Monde which would support the Dallas Council on World Affairs with visiting delegates and efforts to accomplish future goals. These eager young women began immediately with Helen Storey as its first president. Moving forward, in1987 Les Femmes du Monde became its own nonprofit organization, and in 1995 added Children’s Medical Center Child Life Program (now called Children’s Health).

“The Woman of the Year Award Dinner began in 1986 with Doris Dixon as the first ever recipient. Les Femmes du Monde has been able to provide the International Education Fund for the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth over $2 million since 1961 and the Child Life Program at Children’s Health with over $670,000 since 1998.
