ISM 2013: positive indicators and a good registration level

- Some 1,400 suppliers from around 70 countries are expected

- Debut of the Newcomer special area

- Russia is the ISM 2013 partner country

- Special shows set the tone

Once again international exhibitor participation for ISM is looking good in the run up to the 43rd International Sweets and Biscuits Fair, which takes place from 27th to 30th January 2013 in Cologne. Already a large number of companies from all over the world have confirmed their bookings for stands, so that almost 90 per cent of the floor space taken up by last year’s trade fair is already occupied. In addition, for the first time companies from the confectionery sector have the chance to exhibit as a “newcomer” at ISM. In particular this represents an especially good opportunity for young innovative companies to present their products and ideas to an international trade public and gain an idea of their value in the market. A total of around 1,400 suppliers are expected to take part in ISM. And just as in years past, an attractive and diverse mixture of market-leading companies as well as small and middle-sized suppliers will make up the field of participants. For 2013, Russia will present itself as the ISM partner country.

Newcomer Area – ISM 2013

Things aren’t always easy for a “newcomer”. How can a new company present itself to trade partners in a market that is already well-established, for example, or show its products and services to potential customers, or build contacts with the media – and how can it do all of this on a limited budget? Now, for the first time, ISM is offering newcomers in the confectionery industry the opportunity to exhibit at the world’s most important business platform for confectionery and snack items – including a special, all-inclusive package offer that can be customised to exhibitors’ needs.

The “Newcomer area”, which is available to all companies that aren’t yet ISM exhibitors, or haven’t been ISM exhibitors in the past, will be located in an attractively designed area in Hall 11.1. The high-quality stands located in this special area will include furnishings and will offer a place where companies can grow their brand and present their products in a targeted way. A communal lounge and bar area will be just the place to relax and have a conversation. All-in-all, the “Newcomer area” is an uncomplicated introduction to participation in the most important trade fair for the sector – and at an attractive value for money ratio.

New Product Showcase

Traders and importers are always on the lookout for new products which can give added momentum to their business. They will find what they are looking for at the “New Product Showcase” at ISM, where new and updated confectionery and snack items will be presented in an attractive central location. ISM exhibitors can book glass display cases here. In addition, all of the products on exhibit in this special area will be given a QR code and pictured on the internet after the trade fair begins.

Sweets and snacks as gifts – an ISM special

At the last ISM, trade visitors were delighted by the special area “Sweets and snacks as gifts”. Here, sweets and snack items which would be appropriate to give as gifts for many different occasions were presented in an atmosphere that is reminiscent of the fun fairs held around 1900. Not only are such gifts perfect for traditional occasions like Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter, they are also just right for parties and celebrations – such as the first day of school or an anniversary. Because the theme was so popular, the sector’s ideas for sweets as presents will be presented in the colourful and charming environment of this special show area again this year. Manufacturers can participate here with a first or second placement at inexpensive rates. The area will have a single theme for overall presentation, and individual company logos will put products and companies in the proper light. According to each exhibitor’s budget, the presentation of its products can be booked with or without a host or hostess. An online “computer screen presentation” is also possible. A hostess will always be on duty at the main information desk of the ISM special “Sweets and snacks as gifts” area. Logos and company portraits will, of course, be included on the ISM website.

In addition, students of the Köln International School of Design will once again be devoting their efforts to the “gift” theme, this time taking as their inspiration the topic of “nostalgia”.

About ISM

As the world’s leading fair for the trade in confectionery and snack items, ISM presents a comprehensive product range from this sector in the following product groups: chocolate, sugar confectionery, fine baked goods, snack products, ice cream and raw pastes. Only end-products intended exclusively for retail sale are on show.

ISM is open exclusively to trade visitors from the wholesale and retail trades on all four days.

The organizers of ISM are Koelnmesse and the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair Working Group (AISM), which serves as the conceptual sponsor.

ProSweets Cologne, the international supplier fair for the confectionery industry, will once again take place in parallel to ISM in 2013.
